How to choose an HPLC system for a QC laboratory

A procurement checklist for configuration, application fit and future expansion.

Start with the methods your laboratory actually runs. Assay and impurity workflows can have different detector, sampling and column-management requirements.

1. Define the application

List methods, sample throughput, solvent compatibility, expected sensitivity and whether future method development is part of the plan.

2. Choose the core configuration

Compare pump architecture, autosampler capacity, detector type and column oven requirements. A modular configuration can be useful when methods are likely to expand.

3. Plan data handling

Confirm chromatography software, audit-trail requirements, user access and data-export needs before procurement.

4. Ask about service

For a production QC environment, installation, training, preventive maintenance and spare-parts availability can be as important as the instrument specification.
